It turns out our last attempt at a survey for the PTA was not acessible to everyone. Please share your thoughts in the survey below so we can create the greatest activities for all of our students in 2015-16
The 2015-16 school year starts in just 10 days on Wednesday, July 22. The big question on everyone’s mind is,
“When will I learn the name of my child’s teacher?”
This year you will be informed of your child’s teacher on Monday, July 20 at the PTA Garden Party from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Please stop by this event a week from Monday to meet some members of the Camarena community and you will be provided a packet of information to start the new school year, which includes the name of your child’s teacher. Some teachers, though not all, will be attending this event, therefore there is no guarantee that you will actually meet your child’s teacher at that time. If you can’t make the event Monday night, you can come by the school on Tuesday July 21 to pick up your packet of information. We are eagerly anticipating a great year at Camarena Elementary once again.
Thanks to the PTA, and our many volunteers, the 2nd annual Camarena Color Splash 5K was a huge hit. Here’s a little of what you missed if you weren’t able to attend.
Special thanks to Camarena parent Jason Elsmore who donated his time and tools (very cool drone) to make this video.

Our PTA, thanks to the generosity of our Camarena community, has steadily raised money for the benefit of our school community. Here are some of the items that have been funded by our Camarena PTA this year.
Field Trips: Transportation costs have been covered for the 4th grade field trip to the Star of India. With the success of our PTA fundraising, we will insure that transportation costs for one field trip per grade level are included in coming years.
Events: Movie Nights, Spring Dance, Family Game Night and Literacy Night were all free events.
Teacher Appreciation: Every teacher has been offered a mini grant of $175 to defray the cost of out-of-pocket classroom supplies. Welcome Back Breakfast to staff and Staff Appreciation Luncheon (coming in May) have been provided.
Scholastic Book Fair: On account of the purchases our families and staff have made at the Scholastic Book Fairs this year, our school has been the recipient of $5,000 of books and supplies for clasrooms and our library.
Stay tuned to this space in the coming weeks as we will announce even more expenditures that will benefit all of our Camarena students because of our successful fundraising. Thank you Camarena community for your generosity and trust.

We aim to create a family atmosphere at Camarena and Cross Grade Level Buddies are always a good way to build those relationships. Here, Mr. Garcia’s 6th graders are supporting our TK friends with their spider project.
Please follow all the action this week on #camlearns as we will be sharing student work and activities through all the Red Ribbon celebrations and classroom activities.
The staff and community of Camarena are eager to support causes worthy of our time, talent, and treasure. The Make-A-Wish Foundation Project, inspired by our 2nd graders, is one good example. Recently, I was approached by Aimee, a 6th grader who would like us to support another cause. Here is her appeal to the Camarena community.
Hello Camarena staff, students, and parents! We would like to inform you that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so we are asking all students to wear pink on Monday, October 20, 2014. Students can wear anything pink. Pink shoes, bracelets, shirts, and more! The reason we are wearing pink is because the staff will be taking pictures of students wearing pink . We will be sending pictures to women in the hospital with breast cancer, so they know that we support them. Thank you all very much, and we hope to see all students wearing pink on Monday, October 20.
Thanks Aimee, for the inspiration to show our support for those who are suffering with breast cancer. I’m sure the Camarena community will get behind this effort to make a tangible display of our unity for those in need.
