Bullying Prevention

The Chula Vista Elementary School District prohibits any discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying of any student based on the student’s actual race, color, ancestry, national origin, ethnic group identification, age, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or gender expression; the perception of one or more of such characteristics; or association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics. Prohibited discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or bullying includes physical, verbal, nonverbal, or written conduct based on one of the categories listed above that is so severe and pervasive that it affects a student’s ability to participate in or benefit from an educational program or activity; creates an intimidating, threatening, hostile, or offensive educational environment; has the effect of substantially or unreasonably interfering with a student’s academic performance; or otherwise adversely affects a student’s educational opportunities.

It was a fantastic start to the school year and this is only the beginning of an eventful year of learning and growth for our nearly 1100 students.  Here are the events of note for this week.


Monday, July 27 – 1st day of our Visual and Performing Arts Teaching Program.  Every student will get high quality teaching from a specialist in music, drama, and the arts.  Each grade level will have their opportunity one day this week and we will continue this every other week throughout the year.

Tuesday, July 28 – 6:00 PM PTA General Meeting.  Pleaes come here about our PTA and join the team.

Friday, July 31 – Minimum Day 1:15 release (as always on Fridays)


Coming Attractions

Curriculum Night has been scheduled for August 5.  This includes grades K and 2-6.  There will be a general session at 5:30 PM and classroom presentations will start at 6:00 PM to be repeated at 6:30 PM for families with more than one child.  There will be no child care provided for this event.

Safety Committee Meeting

We are going to have a Safety Committee Meeting is Wednesday, July 29th at 3:00pm. At this meeting we will discuss the rules and procedures of the recess and lunch. All parents are welcome.

If you are interested in joining the Safety Committee Leadership Team please email me cynthia.orr@cvesd.org . We will be meeting as a team 2-3 times a quarter. The purpose of the team is:

1. The social and emotional climate of Camarena.

2. Emergency procedures and safety plan.

First Day Line Up

The students will be lining up on the blacktop tomorrow. We will have chairs and teacher names by their teacher letters tomorrow to help. Here is a list and a map to help with line up in the morning. We will have supervision for students at 7:45am.

This Week at Camarena: Opening Week 2015-16

Our short little summer is now a distant memory and the Camarena staff is busily preparing another year of learning here at Camarena Elementary.  Here is everything you need to know to make that first week a big success.

Monday, July 20 – Garden Party (5:00 – 7:00)

Come on out and see the developing Camarena Garden, meet some of your school neighbors, and receive the packet for the beginning of the year, which includes the name of your child’s teachers.  Some staff, though not all, will be present to meet and greet families this evening.

Wednesday, July 22 – School Begins (8:15-1:15)

This schedule is for students in grades 1-6

TK orientation is on Wednesday July 22nd.  The morning TK orientation is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. The afternoon TK orientation is from 11:40 am to 12:40 pm.  The one hour orientation is for parents and child.  Tuesday will be the first full day.

KINDER ONLY: This week’s special schedule is from 8:15 – 12:00. For morning drop-off, please meet in Auditorium. Dismissal will be from teachers’ classrooms. Please pack a snack only, students will not have lunch at school this week.

Thursday, July 23 – Day 2 (8:15 – 2:45)

The Countdown is On

The 2015-16 school year starts in just 10 days on Wednesday, July 22.  The big question on everyone’s mind is,

“When will I learn the name of my child’s teacher?”

This year you will be informed of your child’s teacher on Monday, July 20 at the PTA Garden Party from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Please stop by this event a week from Monday to meet some members of the Camarena community and you will be provided a packet of information to start the new school year, which includes the name of your child’s teacher.  Some teachers, though not all, will be attending this event, therefore there is no guarantee that you will actually meet your child’s teacher at that time.  If you can’t make the event Monday night, you can come by the school on Tuesday July 21 to pick up your packet of information.  We are eagerly anticipating a great year at Camarena Elementary once again.
