The Chula Vista Elementary School District has determined that schools that wish to consider uniforms need to have an “overwhelming majority” of the community in favor of uniforms in order to proceed. After surveying our community, 54% of our families are in favor of uniforms and 46% are against. Based on this survey, we clearly do not have an “overwhelming majority” of families interested in school uniforms and we will not pursue this policy at this time.
To give you a comparison, in 1997-98 both Rice and Loma Verde approved school uniforms and their communities voted in favor at a rate of 93% and 87% respectively. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to call the school at 591-5500.
Greetings Camarena Friends. It is so great to see the number of families walking to school every day. Our first few days have surfaced a few issues we need to address for a smoother entrance and egress.
1. Dogs are not allowed on campus as you can see by that nifty sign in the post. We will have our own signs up soon, but please help us abide by the law and keep all dogs outside the gates of Camarena.
2. For both morning and afternoon we are going to speed up traffic by forcing all cars that are leaving the parking lot to make a right turn. This will allow us to move two lanes of traffic at the same time and keep the traffic flow, well flowing!
No doubt we will continue to make modifications and adjustments to our processes if we feel they will make for a smoother and safer experience for our 950+ students. As always your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Our PTA decided to try something new, although it’s a trend across the nation, it is to have a Direct Donation Drive.
The consensus is that parents do not like receiving “sales/fundraising catalogs” because they end up doing all the work. We only receive 30% – 40% of all sales. Opposed to a direct donation, 100% of your donations goes to the PTA and it’s 100% Tax Deductible! Each donation tier includes a tile. As you see the increments increase there are more rewards for parents. We are hoping this Donation Drive is successful to avoid sending a catalog home in the Spring. Tiles are included with each direct donation level but are also available for purchase for $20 each. Families are welcome (and encouraged) to purchased more than one tile.
Please see the attached flyer for more information. PTAflyer2013
For those families who are willing to send their child with a device to be used for educational purposes, we ask that you sign the following document and return to your child’s teacher. The BYOD program is entirely voluntary. Students who are given permission by their parents to bring their device to school will be allowed to access our CVESD Guest network and they will need to abide by the guidelines put forth in the attached Internet Use Agreement. If you have any questions, please share them in the comments below.
Please join us for our first General PTA Meeting this coming Wednesday July 31st at 6:30pm. We hope to have a great turn-out so this will be held in the school’s auditorium.
This is a chance for everyone to get involved!
We will also be available before and after the meeting to help new members join the PTA, order Family Tiles for the school courtyard, and answer any questions you may have. This will be at 5:30pm and then for an hour or so after the meeting concludes.
If you wish to participate (vote) in the PTA meeting this year, please join as soon as possible as your vote does not count until you have been a member for 30 days!
Please join us before or after the next General PTA Meeting on July 31st @6:30pm to order a Family Tile. Once you’ve taken and decorated the tile, the PTA will arrange for all the tiles to be set in the courtyard for years to come. Please be there at 5:30 or after the meeting if you wish to purchase a Tile.
Mark your calendars for Curriculum Night. We will host all grade levels onTuesday, August 6. Each grade level will present in two sessions so that families with multiple children can attend one of each.
The first session begins at 6:00 and the second session begins at 7:00.
Our goal with social media is to open up a window from our classrooms to our parents who are working, traveling, or unable to visit school. You can get information from grade level and classroom blogs, however you can get up-to-date posts on what students are learning and doing in the moment through our Twitter account and hashtags. So, you can follow us on Twitter @camelementary by selecting the follow button on the right side of our webpage. You can also follow all the teachers who use the hashtag #camlearns when they post about what’s going on in their classroom. You can also follow me @dfwinters (Prinicipal). Join us in staying connected through the tools at our disposal. See you soon!
